I’d like to show you this picture because that’s the glare I’d give the English version, but sadly enough…. this picture is quite 18+ and….. every time I see it… I have major nosebleeds. =_= So BE WARNED!

I was re-watching Mai HiME one day when I decided to watch the dubbed version.
But… I had watched the Japanese version so much, I probably can recite all of Shizuru and Natsuki’s lines. xD I only paid attention to those two. So, I was watching it and I almost died. THEY REPLACED SHIZURU’S KYOTO-BEN WITH SOUTHERN ENGLISH ACCENT????? What the hell? I mean, no offense or anything, but Americans just can’t dub well. Don’t get me wrong, I’m ABC (American born Chinese), so I’m technically American. But…. this…. was just too much. “Shizuru’s Kyoto-ben was what made her eccentric” says one youtube watcher. I agree. “This southern accent makes her look like a joke” says another. Yeah. Believe me. Re-watch the last battle between them. When ‘English’ Shizuru says: “I’m sorry, I never meant to hurt you” it sounds like a total sarcastic joke. But when ‘Japanese’ Shizuru says it, we’re all bawling. I’m not saying that Americans suck or anything, because I’m American…. and insulting yourself…. somehow doesn’t make sense. xD

I just think that Americans need work on their dubbing. Well, they try, and I have to give them credit for trying so hard to dub it right. But Japanese anime just isn’t made for English dubbing.
